Forester Pass in the Sierra Nevada, a very well known location on the Pacific Crest Trail. Known to either make or break a hike, as too much snow can be dangerous, and gaining passage can mean it’s relatively all down hill from there to Canada. Relatively in more ways than one as this is also the highest point on the PCT at 13,153 feet. These mountains depicted in the painting are the peaks you see looking out from that pass, as well as the pass itself nestled tightly in those hills.
