The 1,400 miles of the Florida Trail has a considerable amount of swampy areas and wetlands. Naturally those who venture out often have the thought of what can possibly live here. I personally rarely see snakes while out hiking, but given enough time and we all have our stories. From a far I think they’re beautiful. I give them wide birth, maybe snap a photo, and move on with the joy of having found one. The snake in the painting is a Cottonmouth. Though they come as dark as night I love to the see ones with the beautiful brown patterns across their body.
